Metaphor, Image, Model

Metaphor: seeing one thing as something else, pretending “this” is “that” because we do not know how to think or talk about this. A metaphor is a kind of image, a verbal one.

Image: visual and perceptible thing, which appears before us but is also kept in our hearts; more concrete than metaphor.
Metaphor -- relationship, Image -- materiality.

McFague: there is no direct knowledge about God. We imagine God in our image.
A mixed type:
model. It reaches the qualities of conceptual thought. Model = dominant metaphor, a metaphor with staying power.
